‘Future Rockers’ Outernational To Play BAR 4 This Saturday

By No Comments Outernational

Fresh off a tour with punk legends GBH, rock band Outernational is back in New York (their hometown!) and will be playing a special acoustic set this Saturday at Bar 4 in Park Slope.

BrooklynTheBorough.com caught up with Outernational at South by Southwest this past Spring, and we're happy to welcome them back to Brooklyn. Their first EP, Eyes on Fire, was produced by Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello and released earlier this year, and the band, fronted by Miles Solay have been on the road ever since.

On a stop in Los Angeles earlier this summer, the guys recorded a cover of Woodie Guthrie's "Deportees" with Morello on vocals, which they soon-after played in Arizona, in protest to the immigration law there (parts of which were recently struck down by the court). Subtitled "Plane Wreck at Los Gatos," Deportees was originally written as a poem by Guthrie in 1948, after a plane carrying migrant farm workers back to Mexico crashed near Los Gatos Canyon and news reports identified the 28 Mexicans on board only as deportees. The song was later popularized by Pete Seeger.  Hear Outernational's version in the video below or downloaded it here.

Come out to Bar 4 this Saturday to catch Outernational live and welcome them back to their favorite borough! RSVP HERE.

Protestor at Liberty Plaza in New York

The brutal reaction of police towards #occupywallstreet protestors in New York City, of campus police at UC Davis to students, and in many instances around the country have only inspired thousands more to fill American streets with their voices. That inspiration, a reawakening within the spirit and mind, is contagious – in my case, it came at a personal cost many years ago.

The New York based singer-songwriter and accompanist is ironically the least recognizable name in a cadre of New York musicians slowly approaching marquee status and it was great to finally catch his solo act.
