Hot Stuff!
This heat!? There’s really no end in sight. As the heat index in the city and its surrounding boroughs remains seriously hot stuff, we’ve got some birthdays of the hot and famous to celebrate, and even warmer ways to celebrate them! There’s some thrilling theater on the island, a steamy night in a boozy beauty salon and a sweaty ride up Brooklyn’s coast. Celebrate some serious hot stuff with this week’s gay-genda!

Cary Grant–time at BAM! Part of a series of screenings of Cary Grant films at BAM is a great way to get cool and cooler. Flask it up to the BAMcinematek for Once Upon a Time, directed by Alexander Hall—a truly innocent film starring Janet Blair, James Gleason and Mr. Grant, plus a surprise cameo by Walt Disney. It was a film made to lift people’s spirits in 1944 during World War II; it also works to beat the heat now during global warming. Yay for A.C!

Transportation Alternatives’ 2nd Annual Brooklyn Waterfront EPIC RIDE is worth the stretching and the burn! A 40-mile bike ride along Brooklyn’s entire waterfront not only highlights the beautiful coastline, but reminds us where else we can improve it. Owl’s Head Park in Bay Ridge and a drink or 2 at the Canarsie Pier make for great pit stops They are promising a “moderately-paced” ride that lasts 12+ hours, so this feat isn’t meant for the fainthearted. They are encouraging participants to bring backpacks with water, sunscreen and money for tacos (yay!). Also be sure your tires are fully inflated. Get your ride ready and beat the heat with some good exercise! This big ride is made possible by Brooklyn Volunteer Committee, the Regional Plan Association and the National Park Service. So support them and pedal real hard!
