There’s No Place Like Pride!

All the famous figures we’ll be celebrating should be proud of themselves, and we are proud of ourselves! Here is your one-stop shop for how to navigate Brooklyn Pride week, rain or shine. Each day is a double hitter because it’s a big weekend, and it's also no surprise that it's Dorothy’s birthday. There are some shockers this week, so raise your glass, your can, or your mug to the sky and mean it.

Downtown Brooklyn: Borough Prez Marty Markowitz is going to ring in our month of Pride at Borough Hall. He will celebrate alongside Cheryl Hall, Thomas Krever, Wendy Stark, and the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus. They’ll fly our flag on the front steps and speak a few words around 6pm, so head downtown to get the low down on pride this month. Everyone will be talking floats, party plans, and where they’re headed so keep your ears and eyes open. There is also talk of some special celebratory lights, this I’ve got to see - here’s hoping for disco balls!
Prospect Heights: After you go see Marty, hop the 2/3 to Beast on Vanderbilt Avenue in Prospect Heights for a night of drafts and giveaways. Top secret swag leftovers will be raffled! The Queerespondence Dykes on Bikes-cycles benefit was so large we couldn’t get rid of all our swag cause all yall wanted to do was dance. Goodies include a Babeland grab bag, a voucher from Transportation Alternatives and tickets to the Bicycle Film Festival. Grab a pint, buy a ticket, and get in line cuz these prizes are bomb. Questions? Hit up D.O.B!
Famous Birthday: Judy Garland
Drink of Choice: Scotch and other stuff

You can pick class or trash. I love both – it’s simply a matter of mood!
Class: Throw on those Ralph Lauren cut offs and Marc Jacobs suspenders for GUMBO at Galapagos Art Space. Get Gay Travel will drop queers off to the swank party where signature cocktails, free styling sessions and photographers await you. The dance floor gets hopping thanks to DJ Scotty Rox and all the gays toast the one-year anniversary of the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck. A night of splendor sure to be recommended by NYC housewife, the countess.
Trash: The Loft above Public Assembly hosts Soffita in this discreet location between the popular venue and the Music Hall. The crowds from each party clash and ebb out front, where you’ll find emo-gays rolling their own. Scale the steep dirty steps all the way to the main floor where DJ Ron Like Hell will have some disco party perfection playing while the sleeveless crowd pushes you to the bar for cheap tequila mixers and canned beer from the full size fridge you could mistake for your own. The Italian inspired homemade décor and booths make you feel like you stumbled on to some house party by the cast of Reality Bites.
Famous Birthday: Jacques Cousteau
Drink of Choice: Salt Water

Pride Daytime: Come join D.O.B. again as they celebrate pride on Brooklyn's 5th Avenue! No bike? No problem! Walkers will carry a new banner that will be making its Brooklyn debut this year! Lots of rolled up jeans, short sleeves, and queers of all kind will take the pavement in Park Slope down 5th Avenue and parts of 7th Avenue. Please RSVP to dykesonbikecycles at gmail dot com to let them know if you'd be interested in holding the banner, taking pictures or if you will be joining on the ride. Join them after for one of the official Brooklyn Pride after-parties at BAMcafe! All proceeds from this party will support Brooklyn Community Pride Center!
Late Night: Badussy leaves us with a bad feeling, but the line-up is pretty fierce. This party will be a collision of the all-day-drinking crowd and the freshly disco-napped so it’s totally worth hitting up. Expect sleeping in corners, drugs, and screamers. Helen Harris and Cunty Crawford are throwing this major banger at Public Assembly up and downstairs for Pride Weekend. An explostion of local and imported DJ’s include Bonnie Danger, Telfar, Helen Harris and Michael Magnan. Crazed photo booth, drink specials, special performances, and complete madness! Get into it! The work out up and down those stairs is worth the hike. Sweet dreams!
Famous Birthday: Alexandre Tansman
Drink of Choice: A French Red
