Kiddies in Brooklyn are in for a real treat. New York Magazine revealed that tomorrow the mecca of playgrounds will be unveiled tomorrow on Pier 6 at Brooklyn Bridge Park: amped-up swing sets with Tarzan-style ropes and double seaters, a 6,000-square foot sandbox, a 13-foot long tube slide, and a water area complete with a moat, fountain, and wading pool. Can big kids play, too?
Wednesday, on top of the Brooklyn Bridge, Vice President Joe BIden met with engineers and Mayor Bloomberg to highlight the $30 million in stimulus funds given to the bridge renovation. In other Coney Island news, preservationists try to save four 100-year-old buildings from being demolished by a developer. The NY Daily News says that even though the city rejected plans for a historic district, the activists came up with a plan to develop the buildings in a way where they could be restored, but not knocked down.
At the other end of Brooklyn, foodies can rejoice. The Brooklyn Paper announced that two food vendors from Manhattan are looking to open stores in North Brooklyn. Crif dogs, known for their deep fried, bacon-wrapped hog dogs, will move to Williamsburg, and the owners of the Mexican food truck Calexico are looking at a space in Greenpoint.
