Bear In Heaven To Play Austin Nine Times This Week

AUSTIN, TX — Brooklyn’s own Bear In Heaven played their third of nine scheduled shows in Austin this week, at the Mohawk on Thursday afternoon.

"It’s actually not as tiring as like waking up and driving to a new city, and loading your gear in at 6 o’clock and sitting around and not playing until 11 or so, and then unloading your gear and staying in some random place and driving the next day," drummer Joe Stickney told BrooklynTheBorough.com on Thursday. "We’ve got a house that like a bunch of bands from our record label are staying at, it’s pretty mellow so we got a homebase to relax."

Over the next five weeks they’ll continue through America and end up back home on April 9 to play the Music Hall of Williamsburg before flying over to Europe for a month.  The band has recently begun touring as a threesome, rather than with their fourth member. Answers as to why can be found in this short video.

"Bear in Heaven came [to SXSW] two years ago – last year we were working on this new album during SXSW so we got some free recording time because our buddy works at a recording studio and since all the bands were out of town for SXSW he just recorded us for free over it, which was nice," Stickney said of the krautrock influenced Beast Rest Fourth Mouth, released last fall.

"It’s definitely exposing us to a wider audience, I think, then we’re accustomed to, the tour is sort of doing that as well – it’s sort of just blending into the tour."
