While you might only afford to dream of your next getaway in this very cold post-holiday season, the folks at Get Gay Travel – a group of young travel know-it-alls who are catering to the queer travel community – are planning to transform the way gays and straights alike get from state to state or country to country.  From deals on cruises for gays, to expert guides in far away places, GGT is working hard to facilitate a great time no matter where you’re headed in 2010. Queerespondence was able to grill Get Gay Travel’s President Ari Warshawsky (pictured, center, with Dave Lewis, Vice President, and Sean Patrick
Henry, Creative & Technical Director) to find out what they are all about and to also get some hot destination picks, so whether you’re jetsetting or roadtripping there is a thrilling adventure in your (not so distant) future!

Queerespondence:  Where/when did the start-up happen?

GGT: Get Gay Travel officially started on Dec 2, 2009 as a division of Get
Services LLC, a concierge company.  Our launch party was held at Therapy Bar
in NYC.  We have been doing GLBTQ travel as a specialty within Get Services
since its inception in 2006.

Queerespondence: Who had such a great idea?

GGT: It had always been a goal for Get Services to effectively serve the gay and
lesbian travel community, as we have been avid travelers always looking for
the most positive GLBT experiences available.  No one person can cake credit
for the move to make it its own division.

Queerespondence: Is it entirely gay?

GGT: NO, we specialize in the GLBTQ travel experience, but many of
the service providers are not gay, and many clients are not gay.  The one
common denominator that links all the people we work with is a commitment to
highly personalized services.  We don¹t discriminate.

Queerespondence: What services do you offer?

GGT: We have a comprehensive website that offers information on
destinations and travel providers with a GLBTQ mindset.  Some cater purely
to the GLBTQ market and some are allies.  We also have original content via
our destination guides and blog.  All this is combined with a do-it-yourself
availability to book on line.  We also have live people to talk to about
your travel wants and needs. As we are a NYC based company, we also have a
range of concierge and chauffeur services that we offer within the
metropolitan area.

Queerespondence:  What makes you different than booking with or working with anyone else?

GGT: The primary benefit we offer is our personal touch.  We travel
for business and pleasure, we are gay, we not only are experts in finding
the right deals but we are part of the community and participate in it.  So
often there is no face behind a website, no live voice backing up the claims
with the knowledge and experience. We only know how to do a high end
service, and with the structure of GGT, we have found a way to do that
without making the client pay a fortune for our expertise.

Queerespondence: Are there destinations that can’t be missed in the New Year – If so what are they?

GGT:

Cologne, Germany
Cologne is the host city for the 2010 Gay Games. The largest sports and
cultural event world-wide for gays, lesbians and their friends, with some
12000 participants from more than 70 countries. Cologne is Germany’s gay
party capital where anything goes. Visitor can also enjoy a vast amount of
culture, sports, art, cafés, clubs and pubs.

San Diego, CA
If you thought San Diego was a conservative sleepy little town THINK AGAIN!
San Diego has been pouring a ton of money into improvements — like their
new airport and stadium, an expanded historic Gaslamp Quarter and even
Little Italy. This is a big ³Don¹t ask don¹t tell² city with men and women
in every color of uniform.

Cape Town, South Africa
Similar to Seattle, San Francisco and Sydney, Cape Town shares the magical
combination of water, culture and geographic beauty that make for an
extraordinary visit.  Endless beaches, super sexy locals and a gay-friendly
vibe make this a hot destination. Cape Town seems tailor-made for an exotic, gay-friendly getaway.
