Have any exciting New Years plans? Give us a shout out! Where will you be? What will you be drinking? Here’s where some Brooklynites will be to ring in the new decade.  Have Fun! Be Safe! Cheers!

Kt, Bushwick, Videographer

Q: What’s up for New Years?

Kt: I’ve only heard of one party – That’s My Jam. I think I went to their party last year. Since i can’t fully remember, it must have been a rager. My friend is also considering having a house party at her new luxury apartment in billyburg (don’t judge, she pays half-price, the only way me or my friends would/could ever live in one of those things) I don’t know though, kids, house parties usually win!

Q: Any Resolutions?

Kt: Get a job. For real.

Kevin, Park Slope, Musician

Q: What’s up for New Years?

K: I will be rocking and ringing the oh-ten this Thursday at my beloved bar4. My band is playing a set with Lowry and Dinosaur Feathers, who always incite a dance party. We will then continue the dance party in the most ass shaking of ways. The bar4 dance parties are always the best- good vibes and sexy cool kids. It’s like being home. If home had a disco ball, whiskey shots and booty jams

Q: Any Resolutions?

K: I wouldn’t say it’s a resolution, but I’m playing with this new band, and I think this will be our year. We plan on making a great record and touring the country- two things I’ve wanted to do all my life. Yee ha!

Cole, Bushwick, Freelancer/ Lover

Q: What’s up for New Years?

C: I still don’t know where I will be, I probably wont know until I am wasted and already there. You know that you get invited to like 10 new years parties and they sound fun and all, but what you really want to do is be in a semi-crowded bar/club with your closest friends; sing, dance, drink, catwalk, etc… and also meet strangers, and see what happens.

Q: Any Resolutions?

C: Hmmm, Get into Grad school or if I dont get in this year move to a different city (maybe), stay in shape, and more 90′s house music.

Q:What’s Up for New Years?

A: Still undecided– there are so many choices! Probably one or a combo of these: a friend’s house party in Bed Stuy, the Femme Family 200Femme Party at Re/Dress or That’s My Jam at Sputnik. I’m also throwing around a few other ideas too.

Q: Any Resolutions?

A: Keep making art & connections, Keep living the dream.

Jen, Park Slope, Actor/Writer

Q: What’s up for New Years?

J: I will be ringing in the New Year in the blessed embrace of Jack Daniels, a steadfast friend whose commitment and consistency have never let me down. I’ll be doing so in Nashville. The logic of this equation seems fairly obvious.

Q: Any Resolutions?

J: More exercise and less use of the phrase "kickin’ it." As in "Yo, Tito what’s good I’m just kickin’ it in Crown Heights." All literal application of the phrase (i.e. "What are you doing with that soccer ball?" "Why, I’m kickin’ it.") is permissible. Oh, and also to become a yoga master and wash my hair more often.

Joshua, Bed-Stuy, Thrift Store Manager

Q: What’s up for New Years?

J: Chances are I’ll still be at home with a couple of friends when the clock strikes midnight and then I plan on hitting up the Spank Magazine All Day, All Day Domino Disco Dancing Party when it starts at 4.

Q: Any Resolutions?

J: 2010 will be the year that I actually get my finances in order. Savings account, here I come!

James, Clinton Hill, Graphic Designer

Q: What’s up for New Years?

J: A quiet night at home with close friends (so everyone can be within walking/bus distance and avoid drunken straphangers and the lack of cabs). No TV, our own special countdown, classic cocktails, and low-key funky music.

Q: Any Resolutions?

J: Usually none… just to enjoy the year, be productive, and be a good friend and person.

  2. Brooklyn’s Guide to City Council Elections

'Tis the season for city elections, so in advance of the September 15 primary, Brooklyn The Borough has compiled a list of incumbents and challengers in this year's contested City Council elections for Brooklyn. There are many challengers this year, and open seats in the 33rd and 39th districts have made for heated races. Issues surrounding sustainable development have driven many candidates out of the woodwork. The pro-development Brooklyn political machine is still alive but questions remain about whether candidates supported by the county's party boss, Assemblyman Vito Lopez, will sustain themselves despite criticism for their ties to a machine that makes the money flow from Brooklyn based business interests. The term limits extension has also sparked a renewed political engagement in the borough. Many candidates who had planned on running for seats that would have been open before term limits were extended have chosen to challenge incumbents that voted for the extension. We've compiled detailed information on each race as well as fundraising totals as the candidates head into the final weekend of the campaign.
