Elia Alba, Busts (Cacy as Twins), 2009

WILLIAMSBURG

Alba’s solo exhibition features 30 busts placed on pedestals to emulate a presentation of classical art and artifacts, utilizing manipulation of photography, fabric, and portraiture.

Group show featuring selected works by Devin Dougherty, Steve Keister, Elisabeth Kley, and George Schneeman.

A joint exhibition of works by world-renowned painter and award-winning illustrator, Frank Morrison, and celebrated photojournalist, Jamel Shabazz.
 
With hip hop music and urban culture as his primary influences, Frank Morrison is recognized as one of the leading contemporary African-American painters/illustrators in the world. Photo Journalist, Jamel Shabazz, has chronicled the streets of New York for nearly 30 years and is perhaps best known for his book, “Back In The Days,” which showcases his unpretentious and distinctive style, and documents the emerging hip-hop scene from 1980-1989 – before it became what is today’s multi-million-dollar multinational industry. Morrison will create works based on several of Jamel’s photographs.
 
The exhibit will also feature new works from Morrison’s Urban Mannerism Collection that consists on these series of works: "Soul Sistah’s," "Urban Legends," "The Cutest Kidz," "Urban Jazz Collection," and "Urban Professionals.”

Flaming Fire Presents "ETERNAL CHRISTMAS: A YULETIDE DREAMLAND, 2009"
At the Temple of the Dying King, 525 Atlantic Ave, near B.A.M.
Opening Reception: Friday, December 4th, 7-11pm

The Flaming Fire Art Collective creates a holiday installation exploring the mythological and cultural roots of the winter season. The work is inspired by the ritualistic nature and magic of the winter solstice, and the transitive nature of life and death. This month long residency at 525 Atlantic Avenue in a formerly vacant storefront will combine live musical performances, ritualistic light installations, handmade sculptures and costumes.

The show will also  feature live concerts by a rotating cast of live musicians including house band LYDSOD, Dame Darcy, multi-media artist Alyssa Taylor Wendt, an interactive illustrated bible art-book project, the Flaming Fire fitness band (not a marching band, a running band), famed graphic novelist Lauren Weinstein, and live projections.

DUMBO
 
Artist’s Reception: Thursday, December 10th, 6-8:30pm
 
Group show with work by Julia Fullerton-Batten, Mercedes Helnwein, Anthony Lister, Ian Whitmore, and Sarah Wilmer.
 
PROSPECT HEIGHTS/CROWN HEIGHTS
 
Opening Reception: Sunday, December 6th, 4-7pm
 
Solo exhibition by the Haitian-born artist Engels shows wall constructions made with paper, layers of paint, found objects, wood and canvas. This work demonstrates Engels’ sure eye for details that form a unit. For the artist these solid constructions resemble a journey, still ongoing and not afraid of detours.
 
BUSHWICK
 
Opening Reception: Thursday, December 10th, 7-10pm
 
Both artists have respectively graced streets and galleries in 35 countries and have been featured in numerous publications throughout the globe. They will be showcasing new canvas, films, and installation works created site-specifically for Factory Fresh.
