Doctors, Magicians and Vampires

The Celebrity Birthdays are weird this week! We are celebrating doctors, magicians, and vampires. All walks of life are encouraged to get out there and dance! These last few weeks of sun will bring all the boys to the yard. All over this gorgeous city there are things to do. Come on in, the water’s fine!
Wednesday
Wednesgayz is a brand new weekly installment at Sputnik, former home to T.M.J (That’s My Jam). The Clinton Hill haunt has an approachable upstairs and a slightly seedier downstairs. Brooklyn’s own Tikka Masala will spin and bring feature queer guests. Headliners include DJ Premier and Talib Kweli. Along with elk burgers and buffalo wings the menu will offer a smattering of our borough’s cutest singles ready to mingle. It’s a dance party, so gimme a beat!
Celebrity Toast: The strange, fantastic and obviously magical David Copperfield celebrates his birthday today! Rock a cape in honor!
Drink of Choice: An invisible carafe of mystery and illusion
Thursday
In keeping with the Russian theme from the night before, The swank, and possibly communist, Eastern Bloc is offering an aptly named Contact party. The red lights and portraits of dictators is the perfect steamy scene for a crowed queer dance mess. DJ Bob Reyes spins, allow me to quote, “ retro-electro/streets of rage boner jams.” Sounds delightful! The bar will offer recession proof bevies, $4 tequila shots and $3 beer. The Homo-Neurotic crew will be taking party pictures sure to end up all over the web. The party is meant for the masses so train wrecks and bookworms alike are encouraged to swing by, throw back a few, and dance.
Celebrity Toast: Can vampires have birthdays? Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson is putting on her usual sixteen layers of makeup for her cougarific 57th year among us humans. Watch out, she distracts with the cleavage!
Drink of Choice: Blood (Life Juice!)
Friday
Ready to throwback to the late 90s? Just think. What was your favorite thing about the 90s? Aside from Jagged Little Pill, Leonardo Dicaprio, and Old Navy we didn’t get much out of them. Lazer Tag is making a millennial comeback with Gazyer Tag at the Hose. The mild-mannered gays turn into blood thirsty killers and love to point and shot. This marriage of throw back fun and vodka specials is a nostalgic dream. Lauren, Little Whorse and AntiTwink.com are hosting while Corey Tut spins and Matt Camp wears nearly nothing on top of the bar. Intended to beat the oncoming winter blues, fall into a night full of ducking and diving. Possible cash prize!
Celebrity Toast: Paving the way for Pixar, the little known June Foray was the haunting voice of Rocket J Squirrel. She was a voiceover pioneer, Yall!
Drink of Choice: What do cartoon squirrels drink?
Saturday
Perfect Birthday Timing! TMJ is all growed up! This 12th installment of the crazy Brooklyn shindig is a glowing birthday bride at the always-intelligent Littlefield. Break dancing warrior poet Yalini Dream will slam alongside the gender-bending trio She-Dick. This evening of queer self expression and danceable fun will be spun by DJ’s Sirlinda and Tikka (you just saw Tikka at Sputnik, so holler at your girl!) The TMJ party has gone through many transformations, from venue to talent and has always been a party with local and international sensibilities. Arrive before eleven, after that its $10. The party has a 250-person capacity so roll up prompt and stylish. It’s found a perfect home that’s full of heart. Littlefield, the eco friendly performanace-art space, founded by Julie Kim and Scott Koshnoodi, is well suited for its Gowanus home. Intended to act as headquarters for Brooklyn’s creatives the wind-powered space hopes to make its eco-footprint even smaller
Celebrity Toast: Mama Cass Elliot brought us some of our greatest summer afternoons. Her would-be birthday is a cause to dance. Dance for Mama!
Drink of Choice: A glass of water to wash down that infamous ham-sammy.
Sunday
Breakout your bow tie and your hottest go-tos, its time to soak up these last little rays! Governors Island will act as a throwback haven for gays and straights alike. Brimming with class and sass the Highline Ballroom and The Saint At Large bring you an evening of dancing in this fleeting summer warmth. Europe’s #1 Grammy Nominated DJs make their New York City Debut. Big shot Corey Craig spins this major gay dance party. Expect a reinvention of the white party. A complimentary water taxi is setting sail from the Battery Maritime Building. Suspenders, bowler hats, and hairy legs will all be there, and a husband-to-be is sure to grace the crowd. With a high of 75 the only low is the price of this shindig, $30 advance tickets is a tall order. But what the hell! Salute the summer with one final goodbye.
Celebrity Toast: The Doctor will see you now! Joyce Brothers turns 81 today.
Drink of Choice: A protein shake, followed by an apple. One a day, Yall!
